Shannon & Wilson conducted a characterization of five shooting areas at the site. The characterization included delineating the extent of lead-impacted soil, lead fragments, and bench-scale testing. In addition to the shooting area characterization efforts, Shannon & Wilson cataloged and characterized the abandoned vehicles, household trash, batteries, tanks, and inert waste.
Shannon & Wilson developed a stabilization method using phosphate for the lead-impacted soil and bullet fragments as part of an Environmental Stewardship Plan. Following application of the phosphate, the stabilized soil was disposed at a local landfill. Following the cleanup activities, multi-increment sampling methods were used to obtain representative samples of the surface soil in and around the former shooting areas. The results of the sampling were used to support site closure.
