Russell joined Shannon & Wilson in 2007 as a laboratory technician and quickly became part of the geotechnical support staff. He provides technical and field services, permit and field coordination of multi-million-dollar geotechnical exploration projects, laboratory analyses of soils, and engineering analyses on a variety of geotechnical projects throughout Alaska. His diversity of projects gives him experience with many field exploration modalities, including truck and track-mounted drill rigs, excavators, and remote helicopter work.
Russell’s field exploration activities include logging subsurface soil conditions in borings and test pits, surface and subsurface soil sampling, in-situ soil condition testing, water level monitoring, and environmental field screening and sampling. He has also provided construction observations requiring field recommendations and on-site materials testing for quality assurance and quality control projects. He provides geotechnical analyses and makes geotechnical recommendations in geotechnical engineering reports related to deep and shallow foundation design in frozen and thawed ground, frost protected shallow foundations, roadway structural sections, and slope stability.
