Olive Lake Dam Assessment

CLIENT US Forest Service

Location Umatilla National Forest, OR

Olive Lake Dam is an 110-year-old, 460-foot-long, 37-feet-high earth dam. Originally constructed as a timber crib structure in 1906, it was expanded in 1935  by burying the timber crib with soil in rock.

Shannon & Wilson is providing geotechnical engineering support as part of the assessment of the Olive Lake Dam.

Sand boils, depressions in the slope, seepage through the dam, and rotting timber contribute to questions about the dam condition. Shannon & Wilson is providing alternatives for reducing risk of dam failure, recommendations for an automated early warning system, and alternatives to improve the dam or replace it.
