Our project, TAPS-Lost Creek Thermal Improvements, received the Gold Award for Special Projects and will advance as a national award finalist.
Since the Trans Alaskan Pipeline System’s construction in the 1970s, climate-warming trends have softened Alaska’s permafrost, leading to challenges with the pipeline’s structures and supports. At the Lost Creek site, steep slopes with complex soil and thermal conditions driven by degrading permafrost posed the threat of landslides that could disrupt the pipeline.
